If you ask someone if they are an above-average driver, odds are that they are going to say yes. After all, some studies have found that most people think that they are above average. In one study, eight out of 10 men said that they were above-average drivers.
Naturally, this cannot be true. If the majority of people are above average, there is something wrong with the statistics. What this means is that most people are overestimating their ability. They are actually not as good at driving as they believe. They may think they are above average while actually being below or right at that average.
This is perhaps reflected in the fact that over 90% of car accidents happen because of human error. Even though drivers think that they are skillful and talented, most car crashes happen because drivers make mistakes.
What steps can you take?
As a driver yourself, this means that you are always at risk from the drivers around you. They may be overconfident and about to make an error that causes a car accident, in which you suffer serious injuries
You cannot necessarily control their behavior, but it is helpful to be a defensive driver. Try to anticipate their mistakes and take proactive steps to avoid dangerous situations. An example could be waiting an extra second to drive through a green light in case someone runs the red light, for instance.
If even being a defensive driver is not enough and you suffer injuries in an accident, then you need to know what legal steps to take to seek compensation.
